Our Approach

The focus of our teaching is respecting young children and allowing them to learn in a friendly, nurturing environment. Children have natural curiosity and unlimited potential. They have the ability to imagine and create. We foster that curiosity and ability while providing them with skills to communicate their needs, problem solve and grow in a community of lifelong learners. The children visit our outdoor art studio weekly. They learn to use real materials and to create. Digging deeper into a variety of concepts and media.

Relationships between school and family

Our goal is to create a community of learners. We respect families as the child’s first teacher. We respect that you know your children best and can offer so much insight into your child’s learning. By building connections between the children, families, and teachers- We are able to support the whole child.

Documentation

Teachers record conversations, observations, and take photographs to build Documentation panels and create portfolios. The portfolios document the children’s growth each year and the panels are displayed in the environment to allow children to revisit and reflect on their learning process.

Environment

The classroom is used as the “Third Teacher”. The environment represents the children, families, and teachers. The teachers intentionally set up the environment to provoke exploration. The environment changes with the children and their interests, allowing them the ability to build on their knowledge and to make sense of their world.
